There are a number of things in life that are hard. For example, things like admitting to your crush that you like them, or choosing between films on Netflix (it’s like they add a million new things to watch a day, I swear), or deciding what to have for dinner.

Then there are some things that are damn near impossible, like climbing Everest or getting your summer body back in time for the first hot days of the season.

While we can’t help you with choosing films on Netflix or sorting out your training for the Himalayas, we do have a couple of cheeky tips here which will hopefully help you to get your summer body back in time for those hot, sultry nights.

Make the choice to be healthy

A pivotal part of your first step towards a healthy body is making the choice to be healthy. You can have all the lofty ideas and all the wonderful goals in the world – but if you don’t have a plan in place, you’re shooting for the moon. Furthermore, you probably won’t land among the stars – sorry.

More like among the chips aisle at the local shops. So instead of wishing and hoping, set yourself out a plan and then stick to it. Whether you get started by browsing the range of exercise bikes online and get serious by buying one, or you make a pact with yourself (or tell a few trusted other people) about your goal to be healthy – just do something that will make you accountable for the outcome.

Accountability is linked to success and you’ll get there much faster when you know you have people who’ll be there to see you fail.

Do the diet thing

We all know the importance of good nutrition and diet for weight loss. Indeed it’s been found that weight loss is something like 80 percent of the weight loss journey. So go about things the right way and make sure that your diet is low in complex carbs, high in protein and high in good fats. You’ll stay full for longer and you’ll get better results. The next thing you need to do is to exercise.

Pick the right exercise

While weight loss is 80%, diet the rest is exercise, so it’s vital that you choose the right kind of activity. For many people, they think that running is the best choice. However, if you look at it objectively, running is often great in the short term but terrible in the long run.

We have all heard about what running can do to your knees and if there is another activity you enjoy, like cycling, for example, it can be good to think about doing a less load-bearing activity.

No snacks

This might seem like a bit of a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people continue to snack and think they’re going to lose weight! We’re sorry to say that you need to cut out the snacks altogether, at least until you have really kicked the weight loss off.

Kick the booze

As with the snacks you have to completely cut out the booze for a good while. Not only does alcohol make you consume a frankly obscene amount of empty calories, but a hangover sets you straight onto a path for a carb binge the whole day.

Whole pizza with extra cheese? Sober you will have the constitution of a judge, but with a hangover you’ll be ringing the Dominos number before you can say Powerade.
