How to Follow a Clean Eating Diet Successfully

We are becoming more and more aware of what we’re putting in our bodies, thanks to countless new bulletins and new research emerging to let us know what is deemed ‘healthy’. As new diet fads come and go, it is becoming clear that there is only one way to maintain a healthy diet; just make healthier choices.

With so much confusion about nutrition and following a healthy lifestyle in order to lose weight, we are often told to cut out particular foods altogether. While this may help for a quick fix, it’s certainly not a sustainable path to follow.

In recent times, the notion of ‘clean eating’ has risen in popularity thanks to the amount of food bloggers and celebrities promoting it in the public eye. But what does it mean? How do we incorporate it into our lives, and what benefit can it have? The Good Grub People offer an insight into following a healthy lifestyle and how to keep it up.

What Is Clean Eating?

Many diets promote eliminating food groups such as dairy or cutting down on certain things, in order to kick-start a weight loss programme. Likewise, some diets will also prompt you to eat less carbohydrates, or increase the amount of protein.

The beauty of following a clean eating lifestyle is that you don’t have to do this. Instead, you simply make more mindful choices, and care a little more about where your food has come from.

In its simplest form, clean eating is making sure you are including whole, real foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. By making healthier choices in line with this concept, you are adopting a more positive approach to your diet.

Mindful Approach

It’s incredibly easy to not think about where your food comes from; you buy it off the shelf at the supermarket and that’s the end of it. Swapping elements of your current diet for healthier options can make a huge difference, such as choosing organic fruit and vegetables and cutting down on refined sugars and additives.

Following the idea of a balanced diet is one of the most sustainable ways to eat cleaner, allowing you to still eat the things you really love. After all, where’s the fun in walking past the chocolate aisle and not being able to treat yourself every now and again?

Including whole foods like fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains in your diet can ensure your body is getting the right nutrition in the healthiest possible way. However, we can’t live off just vegetables for the rest of our lives. How do we include healthy, clean protein in our diet too?

Choosing Grass-Fed Meat

When it comes to eating meat, we sometimes forget that it too can have an impact on the quality of our diet. However, you have a choice even when it comes to how healthy that beef joint or shoulder of lamb is for you!

Meat is one of the best sources of protein for our bodies, and protein is an essential part of our diet especially when it comes to weight loss and muscle. However, being more mindful of where your meat has come from can have an impact on how good it is for you.

Choosing grass-fed, or naturally reared, meat means that you are eating more nutrients and the right antioxidant vitamins that your body needs. Looked after with care, grass-fed meat is much better for you than factory farmed meat that has been reared on an unnatural diet.

Grass-fed meat has no traces of hormones or chemicals; raised slowly, the animals are fed on a completely natural grass diet which includes a higher Omega3 content. Raised so slowly and naturally also means it tastes great and the quality of the meat is incredibly high.

Meat such as grass-fed beef can also have less total fat, as well as a better balance of healthier fats that our bodies need.

So, next time you’re looking for a way to improve your diet and overall health, remember the little changes that can make a big difference!
