What are stretch marks and why do we get them?
Stretch marks are white or purple lines made from distension, which is in fact the tearing of the dermis (skin). Even though our skin is elastic and adaptable to any excessive weight gain, stretching or changes of the body, sometimes this rapid change process takes its turn and tears it leading to appearance of stretch marks.
These stretch marks can occur on any area on the skin, most common on the thighs, abdomen and arms. Stretch marks may ruin the appearance of your body and usually occur after giving birth, because of the changes in the body and weight gain and also during puberty while most of your body parts change overnight.
And the last cause for stretch marks is genetics. If your parents have them you will most probably inherit stretch marks as well.
Are there any ways how to get rid of stretch marks for good?
Yes! Believe it or not some of the most effective ways to get rid of your stretch marks are by using the simplest ingredients from your kitchen. Here are a few:
1. Castor Oil
By rubbing castor oil on the stretch marks, wrapping it with a cotton cloth and heating the place with a heating pad or hot water bottle, you will see results one month after the treatment. Castor oil is well known for its remarkable effects on the skin and it also used for various skin problems (such as: acne, wrinkles or moles).
2. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera repairs any skin damage and therefore it is quite useful in treating stretch marks. You can use the aloe vera gel to massage the affected areas on daily basis. Instead of using an artificial crème, the aloe vera will provide the best vitamins for your skin.
3. Egg Whites
Egg whites are a great source of protein and amino acids. The best results will appear if you rub your skin with egg whites. You can use them as a mask, leave them a few minutes to dry and then wash your skin.
By applying the potatoes juice to your skin you will restore the damaged cells of your skin, which means you will get rid of stretch marks immediately. Here’s how to use potatoes to heal your skin: First, get a medium sized potato and cut it into pieces; Have in mind that every slice should contain enough juice; Use each of the slices to rub your skin and let the potatoes’ juice dry off afterwards. Afterwards, wash your skin with lukewarm water.
Instead of eating sugar which will lead you to weight gain and eventually getting stretch marks, why not use it externally as an exfoliant? Just get some regular sugar from your kitchen and mix it with almond oil. Apply this texture on your skin and rub it for a few minutes. You will see immediate results and your stretch marks will fade.
Another option is a recipe made with sugar as well, by mixing the following ingredients and using it as a natural peeling:
- 8.8 oz / 250 grams of salt
- 8.8 oz / 250 grams of sugar
- 3.3 oz / 100 ml of palm oil (you can use any vegetable oil as a palm oil substitute)
6. Olive Oil
All the antioxidants and vitamin E in the olive oil will play a main role in getting rid of the stretch marks. You can apply olive oil after every bath all over your skin to keep it elastic, hydrated and moisturized, and the procedure will reduce your stretch marks and protect your skin.
7. Lemon Juice and Vitamin C
You can use fresh lemon juice and apply it on your stretch marks which will reduce them in a few treatments because of its acidic nature, or even take an oral supplement which will prevent getting new stretch marks.
8. Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is an amazing moisturizer, full of nutrients and fatty acid content which is a perfect treat for dry and damaged skin. To get the best results you have to be persistent and apply cocoa butter twice a day for a few months.
Our advice is always to take care of your skin and use the above given methods daily to have glowing and healthy skin. Remember to keep yourself hydrated, drink a lot of water which will purify your skin, and keep it elastic and shine from the inside out.
