How Do You Know If Your Body Is Acidic? This Is What You Need To Do

If you didn’t already know, one of the basic things to do in order to eat yourself toward healthiness and away from diseases is maintain a good pH value level.

The two letters “pH” stands for “power of hydrogen”

The pH value actually represents the concentration of hydrogen ions in the fluids and tissues within your body.

The human body pH value ranges from 0 – 14. The pH values from 0 – 7 point to an acidic condition of the body, whereas the pH values above 7point to an alkaline condition. The optimal value of pH is somewhere between 7.3 and 7.4. If you have a pH value less than 6.8, it points to acidity, so it’s high time you did something about it!

Despite the fact that the significance of pH balance hasn’t been proven by sufficient number of studies and researches, maintaining a good pH balance is of great importance.

The condition when the body’s fluids are chronically acidic, rather than alkaline, is called acidosis, while the chronically alkaline condition is called alkalosis. The latter condition, for obvious reasons, is very rare.

The kidneys are the internal organs which are mainly responsible for maintaining the body’s pH balance. Whenever your body’s condition is more acidic than alkaline they work to compensate for the lost pH value. Also minerals from the bones and muscles such as calcium and magnesium are released in order to compensate for the excessive acidity of the body. In turn, the bones become weak and are easily broken. Muscles become weak too.

This leads to the creation of ammonia and these minerals are excreted from the body through urine, which is very alkaline. This can be the primary reason for the appearance of conditions such as osteoporosis and sarcopenia. A low pH value can also increase the risk of disorders such as formation of kidney stones, high blood pressure, and diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and many others.

Whether your body is more acidic or alkaline basically depends on your daily nutrition, that is the food and fluids which enter your body. It’s actually quite easy to maintain a good pH balance-all you need to do is be careful with what you eat and what you drink every day.

Fruits and vegetables are the most important thing to consume

Indeed, fresh produce will help you keep or achieve a neutral or a good pH value, and thus improve your overall wellbeing.

Although some fruits and vegetables can be more acidic than alkaline, generally they are the healthiest source of beneficial vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium which alkalize your body. They will keep your bones and muscles strong, significantly decreasing the risk of diseases.

On the other hand, highly processed foods, packed in cans, jars, foils, etc., are acid-forming as they are rich in chloride, phosphate, sulfate and other chemical compounds. The food offered in restaurants, especially fast food, is also very acidic and harmful.

Another thing, you should pay attention to, is your daily intake of salt. An excessive amount of consumed salt can be quite harmful for your body as the salt contains sodium and chloride which are very acidic. It is also very important that you keep yourself well-hydrated on a daily basis, and drink a lot of water.

Seriously try to avoid drinking fluids such as alcohol, coffee and other caffeinated beverages as they are quite acidic. Besides healthy nutrition, there are also food supplements you can buy from any pharmacy that contain high concentrations of potassium and magnesium. Credible supplements help you quickly restore your pH balance.

If you want to test the pH value of your body’s fluids, you can do that quite easily at your home. First you need to go to the pharmacy and buy a pH test strip. When you urinate on the strip, you can check your pH value on the chart given depending on the color of the strip. Then you will now if your nutrition needs some “remodeling”.
