What Microwaved Water Does To Plants(Experiment)

Even though microwaves were thought of as a great invention for the modern living, recent studies and experiments prove that they are harmful to people’s health. 

There are still some controversies about their usage, as many advertisements explain that microwave-heated food is healthier to take. However, one experiment proved quite the opposite.

Microwaves work in a way that they radiate the food/drinks in a non-ionizing way. This way seems to be the less cancerous form of radiation but you are still risking your life, in fact. Some studies say that this type of radiation is greatly carcinogenic and it can lead to developing a random form of cancer.

It has been shown that human DNA is very sensitive to radiation, and the cells can easily be modified by it. This modification is in fact very dangerous because when it happens, it means that cell’s DNA receives new instructions about how to live. That’s how it can easily become cancerous in the future years.

The experiment No.1

Origins: Now that we know all about the damage of microwave radiation, we can start with showing you an experiment conducted at home by Arielle Reynolds from Knoxville, Tennessee.

This experiment was made for a high school science fair and proved many scientific studies on the harmful effects by microwaves.

What the girl did was that she used both clean and microwaved water to plants. The microwaved water was left to cool before given to the plant, and the other water was heated to boil on a regular stove, and also given after cooled down.

Here are some of the pictures from the experiment conducted in the period of 9 days.

From the experiment we can see that the plant which was given microwaved water started withering from day three. Then, on day nine, the microwaved water plant literally stops existing, whereas the other one thrives.

What happens when you use a microwave oven?

The meal you have prepared in the microwave oven is full of d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, which is a carcinogen. Also, some of the amino acids in milk or cereal grains may be converted to carcinogens when microwaved. This is also true about breast milk as well. Studies have shown that when breast milk is microwaved, it loses the important vitamins and amino acids. Some of the amino acids are modified into poisons for the kidneys and the nervous system.

In terms of heating, experiments have shown that these ovens do not heat food evenly. That means that you get both overcooked and undercooked parts in your food, which is dangerous for your health.

The central issue with the microwave oven is the way it corrupts the DNA in the food. In this way, the human body does not recognize it, but it wraps it in fat cells in order to protect from the dead food.

What is wrong with this experiment?

Despite all the research, microwave is still used as a household appliance and you can find it in almost any home. The rumor of it being harmful still goes on, and the experiment is also a bit controversial. Let’s see in what way we can say that it is no good science.

We can start from looking at the pictures – we are not sure whether they are real or fake, whether they used photo shop or they are telling the truth. This doubt arises from the fact that as you can see, “Day one” and “Day five” photos seem the same in terms of positioning, background elements, camera angle, and lighting, but they look different only in terms of the plant which is withering.

This is the reason why experiments should be done more than once under specific and carefully controlled conditions. The above experiment does quite the opposite and it is not reliable. We can easily notice that:

  • the soil of the two plants might have been different and therefore that might have been the cause of the withering of the plant;
  • the plants may not have been exposed to enough daylight/heat;
  • the plants may have been affected by some insects or pets;
  • the containers of water may have been cooled/heated unequally, which resulted in warmer water for one of the plants;
  • we don’t know whether the experimenter interfered in some way with the result.

We decided to make our own experiment

We were pretty curious about this science fair experiment and as plant lovers we decided to make our own experiment to see what will happen. Because of the above-mentioned factors not being taken, we also decided to conduct a more controlled experiment.

In this experiment we wanted to see whether microwaved water really has this bad impact on plants. The experiment looked like this (as you can see in the pictures below): we took three different types of plants and we gave three different types of water: one heated in the microwave (then cooled down), one boiled on a gas stove (then cooled down), and the last one not boiled at all.

The container we used was the same for all of the three plants. The water was at room temperature, whereas the plants were protected from pets and other environmental factors. Those were the things that were different than in the original experiment.

The photos below evidence that all of the plants were fairly thriving. As you can see, there is little evidence proving the previous experiment. In fact, the plants did not suffer a lot of change during the experiment. We decided to keep them at home!

Despite all the research about microwaves, their impact on plants hasn’t been studied a lot. Science has yet to prove whether water from the microwave damages plants or not. Our experiment proved that microwaved water is safe.
