U.S.D.A. On Board With Shipping U.S. Chickens To China For Processing, Then RE-ENTRY To States for Human Consumption

China has become the notorious country when it comes to cheap products and low quality, however it has entered every country and we often see the sign Made in China, so it becomes normal for us to buy Chinese products.

When we buy clothes, many people do not even look at the label as long as it`s fashionable, modern and suits us well. However, how long will we tolerate this expansion of low budget products or even worse will we tolerate low budget food?

When it comes to health, it comes natural for us to spend great amounts of money on organic, high quality food, but are we getting the same for what we are paying?

Nowadays we can literally question everything. Where did this salmon come from? Are the fruits as healthy as they used to be? If we grow fruits and vegetables in our own garden or maybe if we have a little farm in our yard we won`t be so suspicious, but with Chinese products becoming part of our everyday lives, it gets harder and harder to control everything that enters in our fridge and stomach.

Chinese chickens in every fridge

A shocking news hit the Internet and baffled everyone. American chickens will be sent in China for processing as it was announced in Food Safety News. The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) allowed Chinese processing and then shipping back in the U.S for human consumption.

This is rather alarming knowing the Chinese food record and on the top of this, there won`t be USDA inspectors on these plants , meaning people will never know if they are eating a Chinese processed chicken.

Due to the fact that Chinese workers are far less paid than American workers, it seems natural for them to save money on the cost of everyone`s health and well- being. A spokesman for the National Chicken Council, Tom Super said “Economically, it doesn`t make much sense.

Think about it: A Chinese company would have to purchase frozen chicken in the United States, pay to ship it 7.000 mile, unload it, transport it to a processing plant, unpack it, cut it up, process/cook it, freeze it, repack it, transport it back to a port, then ship it another 7.000 miles. I don`t know how anyone could make a profit doing that.”

Sea food has already undergone this processing

Obviously everything makes sense knowing that seafood is processed in China and shipped back in the States and according to the Seattle Times, Pacific salmon and Dungeness crab had been processed in China due to the fact that in China this is done for the cost of 20 cents per hour whereas in the States costs 1$ per pound. Douglas Forsyth, Premier Pacific`s presidents said that fish are de-headed , frozen and shipped to China and later on boned, skinned and cut into portions of 2 ounces to 6 ounces. Trident`s Bundrant says processing is yet cheaper for labor-intensive fish despite 20 cents in transportation costs.

Food safety vs. cost savings

American processing is usually paid about $11 per hour whereas Chinese processing is paid between $1-2 per hour, which is far less from the States. A bigger question is raised here, is the profit of some companies more important than people`s health? Is seafood processing becoming practice and will we question everything that we buy?

Food should never be seen in an economically sense, especially not when there are some rules that need to be followed in order for people to feel protected and not to share the same destiny as Chinese people. China has plenty of scandals when it comes to food and food safety in the States is far more advanced than the Chinese one. Some of the Chinese food scandals include:

– melamine-tainted milk powder has caused illnesses and even death in China

 – rats and other small mammals are sold for lamb meat to Chinese costumers

– mercury in baby formula

 – shady death of dogs and cats eating Chinese pet treats containing duck or chicken.

It is evident why we should put an end to all of this and Chinese processed food should never enter the American market, especially not in school programs. Every rule that allows poultry to be processed and exported to USA should not be implemented. There is also a petition which you can sign, by doing that you will protect yourself, your family and we should all gather for the well-being of everyone.
