Microwaves Are Bad For Your Food – Here Is Why!

There is nothing stronger than my love for gadgets and devices which will make my life easier and will save me a lot of time. Technology has improved so much and we can rely on so many of these inventions, that some of them have even entered our daily lives and become “can`t live without” devices.

One of these devices that definitely crosses my mind when I think of it is the microwave. How lucky we are to have it, it saves us time, energy and it`s super easy to use, even my children know how to heat their breakfast. However, not always do we get the most convenient and the healthiest, all in one.

There have been doubts that microwave ovens can be really harmful due to its radiation, but nothing has been proven and people are still using it. Many Americans won`t even think about throwing away the microwave, but maybe we will all have to do that.

A Swiss scientist opposed the traditional medicine and conducted a study in order to prove that microwave ovens can really affect the nutritional value of our meals and suggested that maybe it`s time to get rid of it. On the other hand, traditional medicine hasn`t come out with the news about microwave`s negative impact on the nutritional value of our food.

The Swiss researcher Hans Hertel has done a study on what happens to microwaved food and what really happens to food which undergoes heating in the microwave, does it lose its nutritional value, is the radiation causing carcinogens or maybe both? So, together with his partner Bernard Blanc they made an experiment.

The experiment was done on volunteers, who have been proven to be healthy and on the age between 20 and 40. The volunteers were given fresh and frozen vegetables as well as raw and pasteurized milk.

All of this food was cooked normally and then microwaved. The volunteers have also undergone blood tests in order to test blood levels after consuming microwaved food and the results showed abnormalities, such as decreased white blood cells (lymphocytes) and decreased cholesterol and haemoglobin, which means less oxygen for the cells.

Due to the radiation as Hertel said that due to microwave emissions, energy damage can affect humans as well.

How is the microwave functioning?

When we normally cook our food the heat is transferred from the outside in and thus cannot damage the nutritional value of the food as much as the microwave can.

As Hertel said: “Technically produced microwaves are based on the principle of alternating current.

Atoms, molecules and cells hit by this hard electromagnetic radiation are forced to reverse polarity 1 to 100 billion times a second. There are no atoms, molecules or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent, destructive power for any extended period of time, not even in the low energy range of milliwatts.


This is how microwave cooking heat is generated – friction from this violence in water molecules. Structures of molecules are torn apart, molecules are forcefully deformed (called structural isomerism) and thus become impaired in quality”. He also added about sun`s microwaves, they don`t shear molecules due to slow oscillation of polarity which replicates the AC powered microwaves.

Russia is also banning microwave ovens?

An interesting fact is that Russia prohibited microwave ovens in 1976 due to the results from 1957`s test on radar microwave emissions and there also have been restrictions for radar workers. This prohibition was removed during Perestroika and this led to microwave expansion.

Similarly to the Swiss discovery, Russians have found a great nutritional value loss during microwave heating, especially in meat as well as agents which provoke cancer. Even though it`s possible for the microwave industry to have improved the microwaves, yet we are not sure.

Many countries have the doubt about the “usefulness” of the microwave ovens and many people were concerned about its cancer producing agents. Spain, for example, in 2003 conducted a similar experiment with fruits and vegetables and the results have shown that almost 97% of the nutritional value of these ingredients is lost.

Moreover, Americans raised a red flag about heating baby formula or breast milk, due to the discovery that microwave ovens destroy almost every nutrient in baby`s formula as well as the protecting agents in mother`s breast milk up to 90 %.

Just to add up

 Microwave ovens damage cell walls and genes and as Hertel added, “… the cells are actually broken, thereby neutralizing the electrical potentials – the very life of the cells – between the outer and inner sides of the cell membranes.”

He also claimed that microwave ovens produce radiolytic compounds which are created during microwave cooking much more than in normal cooking. Microwaved food alters the cellular activity in the consumers of the microwaved food and their organism has to produce energy.

Hence, human cells undergo anaerobic energy production of glucose fermentation, also known as a cancerous condition. In these conditions, cancer cells cannot survive due to the oxygen presence and cancer patients should not eat sugar as a result to this.

How can we prevent this?

We should just say NO to microwaves. We shouldn`t be so dependable on something which may provoke damage to our body. However, if you must use it, you should definitely put its usage to a minimum and most importantly avoid preparing microwaved food for your children.

Everyone is in charge of their own body and health, what you eat and how you cook it will be reflected on your well-being. For a change, eat the food as soon as you cook it, do not overheat it because it`s pointless, all the nutrients will be death and your organism won`t benefit from that food.
