Turmeric Is As Effective As Exercises – Can Reduce Your Risk Of Having A Heart Attack By 56%

Turmeric is a powder which we use for flavoring our food. It comes from the root of the Curcuma plant and it has a bright yellow color. Turmeric is famous as one of the ingredients in curry as well as an important ingredient in mustard. Chinese and Indian cultures use it as a medicine, because little do we know about its enormous health benefits.

It has a bitter flavor and a fragrance reminding us of ginger and orange. Traditional medicine hasn`t yet acknowledged turmeric`s enormous impact on people`s health and well- being, but plenty of research have shown the opposite.

Health benefits of turmeric

1. Anti-inflammatory compound

Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory. It helps the body to protect itself from bacteria and toxins as well as to help the body to repair possible damage. Turmeric is consisted of volatile oil fraction and a pigment called curcumin, which have been proven to have an incredible anti-inflammatory property.

Turmeric is free from toxins, unlike many medicines found in the drug stores. Chronic inflammation is notoriously famous for playing a major role in the Western diseases such as Alzheimer`s, cancer, metabolic syndrome. So, turmeric can help a lot in fighting chronic inflammation.

2. Increases the body`s antioxidant capacity

Turmeric is also a powerful antioxidant, in other words it neutralizes the free radicals which are responsible for causing cancer. Turmeric improves the liver function and with its antioxidant properties, it protects it from cancer growth and prevents it from possible cancer development.

3. Improves brain function and prevents brain disease

Every person has growth hormones which are crucial for proper brain function. Such type of hormone is Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and its decreased level in the brain is known to be responsible for brain linked diseases such as Alzheimer`s and depression.

Curcumin increases the levels of BDNF and therefore protects the brain from many malfunctions and improves brain`s function. Its degenerative property keeps the brain fresh and many trails are conducted to prove that it can make you smarter.

4. Fights age

Related problems- turmeric`s health benefits are numerous and there`s no secret that nowadays it`s taking on the world and provides its place as a superfood. That`s why many people implement turmeric as a beauty ingredient and anti-aging supplement.

To sum up… From a native supplement to the top as a superfood, no wonder eastern countries are famous for longevity and timeless result. There are still a lot of researches to be done to establish the health benefits of turmeric in detail but we can`t overlook its incredible positive impact on the human`s body. From preventing cancer, to improving brain function and brain related diseases, we will absolutely hear more about turmeric in the future.

Cardiovascular health benefits

Even though traditional medicine has not yet approved turmeric as a healing supplement, there is a research on turmeric`s impact on health and its miraculous cardio-protective properties.

We will all agree that we need some physical activity in order to keep our body and mind fresh and on alert. What better way to step it up and join the gym? Well, it seems that turmeric has also done its part in the exercising area as well.

It produces some of the cardiovascular health benefits and age-associated changes in arterial health. A study published in the American Journal of Cardiology revealed that turmeric reduces the risk of heart attack by 56% and improves the vascular function as an aerobic exercise in postmenopausal women.

The study which lasted for 8 weeks examined 32 women in the postmenopausal period and divided them into 3 groups: exercise, curcumin and non-treatment control. They followed the reaction of the blood vessels (also known as the endothelium) and this endothelial function is crucial for developing atherosclerosis.

The group exposed to curcumin received 150 mg of turmeric extract and their diet of exercising habits remained unchanged during the study.

The group exposed to exercises did aerobic sessions more than 3 days a week and additional home exercises, they also cycled, walked and did a 30 to 60 minutes long sessions, increasing maximal heart rate by the end of the trial.

After the study finished, it was concluded:  “The present study showed that regular ingestion of curcumin or regular aerobic exercise training significantly improved endothelial function.

The magnitude of improvement in endothelial function to the same extent, suggesting that curcumin may prevent the age-associated decline in endothelial function in postmenopausal women.”

Important fact:

Turmeric should never be used as a replacement for exercises. Meaning that both exercises and turmeric`s use can be beneficial for the body.

The study wasn`t conducted on a group of people who undergone both treatments and therefore it`s still unclear what will happen if we use turmeric as a supplement and exercise at the same time. We shouldn`t overlook the various health benefits of turmeric, but we also shouldn`t implement it as a substitute to exercises.
