Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has been trending the fitness and diet charts for quite a time now. Some people believe that CLA supplement can actually help you to lose weight, while others still doubt its effectiveness and functionality.
Those of you who have never heard of the CLA supplements, CLA is a stimulant-free, weight-loss supplement. It is a trans-fat that is available in various dairy products but in a very small amount. It is believed that it can help you lose weight. Although CLA is immensely popular for doing wonders, the question here is, does a CLA supplement actually help you to lose weight? To find the answer keep reading!
Everyone looks for a magic pill that can cut that extra body fat and CLA supplements are claimed to fulfill that purpose. A large number of studies have been conducted throughout the world to prove the effectiveness of CLA.
Before testing the effectiveness of CLA on humans, studies were conducted on mice. This study showed a drastic weight loss in mice by reducing 60 percent of their body weight. And this study was the main reason why the CLA has been topping charts since then. However, the validity of this study questionable to a great extent. The study cannot be generalized to humans as clearly human body does not work like a mouse anatomy, therefore, expecting same results for humans is still doubtful.
This did not stop here. In order to find out whether CLA supplements can actually help you lose weight another study was conducted and this time on humans. The study was called “Conjugated Linoleic Acid Reduces Body Fat Mass in Overweight and Obese Humans”. A diverse sample was chosen with 60 people with various BMI and age factors. The study was conducted for 12 weeks and all the crucial factors like body weight, body fat, lean body mass, body fat mass etc. were evaluated very closely. All the participants were given questionnaires at the beginning and the end of the experiment to record self-evaluation.
The results of the experiment gave a whole new dimension to this study. It showed that the best CLA supplements can be effective for people who are obese and overweight as it caused a significant decrease in the body fat mass of the participants. It improved the muscle strength but also increased the lean body mass a little.
It can also be concluded from the study that the amount of CLA supplement is less significant than the type of CLA supplement being taken. Therefore, taking the right CLA can have a huge impact on your weight loss.
Where some studies show that CLA actually helps to reduce weight, others have contradicting opinions. Some health experts suggest that daily intake of CLA supplements can increase the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, but this again is debatable.
With so many opinions floating around it becomes almost impossible to wrap your head around anything. But it can be said that CLA can help you lose weight but it comes with a price and to avoid that doctor’s consultation is absolutely mandatory. Also, one body is totally different from the other, so a CLA supplement working for some does not necessarily mean that it will work for you too.
If you feel a bit lost in all the technical terms coming your way, there is one thing you should keep in your mind, and that is to workout. All the studies show that the fat cells broken down by CLA can be used as a fuel for your body, which means if you work out along with taking CLA supplements, you can burn a lot more fat than usual. So, use it as an extra tip in order to shed some extra inches, while you continue taking your CLA supplements.
