When we think about organic or grass-fed produce from beef to chickens to eggs, we believe that it’s healthier but we’re not always sure why. Anyone who cares about their health is going to see the truth about grass fed animals when reading this article because it reveals the hidden benefits of eating such meat.

Here are 4 benefits of eating organic or grass-fed produce.

Antibiotic and Hormone Additive-free

It’s a sad fact that much of today’s livestock is given regular doses of antibiotics to keep healthy and avoid the loss of animals for the farmer. While this keeps their profit margins up, it leaves various traces of antibiotics in the meat when it hits the supermarket shelves and gets consumed by unwilling buyers. Sometimes hormones are added to accelerate growth which can also be present.

Thankfully, organic meats produced at True Story Foods and other organic producers don’t follow either practice to keep their livestock healthy. As such, you’re not getting anything extra that you’re not expecting in your beef patty, fried egg or pork chop.

Cancer-fighting Properties

With cows being grass-fed as opposed to grain-fed thanks to greater time outdoors, it’s been found that this creates more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in their bodies. The CLA has benefits for humans too who consume grass-fed beef. There are 16 types of CLA with recent studies demonstrating its anticarcinogenic effects and anti-cancer properties. For instance, a study in The Nutrition and Cancer found that women with a higher level of CLA were less at risk for breast cancer. There are quite a few known cancer-fighting foods worth adding to your diet, as outlined in this Dr. Axe article.

Less Fatty

Animals that are grass-fed and aren’t fed a grain-based diet tend to grow to be leaner with less fat on their bodies. For people who prefer leaner cuts of meat and to only pay for meat without slabs of fat adding to its weight, buying organic sets a good standard here. What fat there is gets rated as higher quality too. Practitioners of the Paleo diet tend to swear by grass-fed and organic produce.

Vitamins, Anti-Antioxidants and the Omegas

The antioxidants present are loaded with vitamin E. As mentioned in the previous section, the fat is healthier because it also has greater levels of Omega-3 due to the livestock being allowed to roam outside in the sun. In the case of beef, vitamin K2 which supports strong bones and a healthy heart is increased; K2 assists calcium reaching your bone structure and skipping the heart where it runs into difficulty.

There are many health benefits to consuming grass-fed instead of grain-fed meats, and they apply to pork and beef products. Similarly, free-range eggs also have more good Omegas because of the sun shining down while the hens walk around the range.

Organic farm produce is healthier for us because it means the animals have been treated humanely, fed in a healthy way, given clean water, and come without any additives or antibiotics that cause concern. Not only is eating organic and grass-fed better for us, but it provides peace of mind on the plate too.
