With the New Year fast approaching, there’s never been a better time to consider kicking or reducing bad habits. It’s an opportunity to refresh and cleanse, all while making better choices for your body, mind, and planet.

While in the UK only a quarter of those who made New Year’s resolutions for 2020 have managed to keep to all of them - 2022 could be the year for you to prove the doubters wrong. Seeing through a resolution, even if a temporary one, is a show of strength.

Common habits to tackle or tame is the consumption of alcohol, meat and dairy and smoking. This article will explore each of these in turn before concluding.

Alcohol

With so much booze flowing during the Christmas period right through to New Year's Eve, many people choose January as the month to kick alcohol from their social calendar.

Most do so for just the month of January - which is known as Dry January - but others commit to removing alcohol from their system permanently. Few people see through this commitment beyond 31st January, but a whole month without alcohol each year is beneficial for your health.

Plus it’s never been easier than it is today. There are now so many alcohol-free brands on the market to support you on your journey. The fact that there are often the fewest social events in January helps a lot too.

Meat and Dairy

The problem with consuming meat and dairy is three-fold. It causes harm to fellow animals, damages the planet we all share and can cause significant complications to health.

Taking the step to remove such foods from your diet can boost physical and mental fitness, save the lives of countless sentient animals and reduce the impacts of animal agriculture - the industry responsible for causing the most climate damage.

People choose January as the month to undertake Veganuary, eating only vegan foods for the month. Lots of those who do so commit to removing meat and dairy from their diet long-term.

Smoking

Smoking has been proven to cause significant health issues to all who partake. It can lead to the development of cancer, as well as breathing issues, ‘smoker’s cough’ and damaged teeth. New Year’s Day acts as a great chance to kick this habit.

Vaping is the easiest method through which to remove smoking from your daily routine. They accurately replicate the concept of a cigarette - in its shape and purpose.

Vaping allows for the retaining of the social element of smoking too. However, vaping drops a harmful ingredient - tar - which it is important to stop consuming.

E-cigarettes still contain nicotine - an addictive substance that is very difficult to kick but remove other health-damaging elements. Vaping will save you money too. It is a modern day version of smoking, and e-cigarettes will support you in your resolution aims. Those who choose an e-cigarette will need to consider buying components like mad rabbit wire.

This article explores three common habits to consider kicking in the New Year. Each is achievable if you persevere. By the time the 31st of January rolls around, you’ll be very proud of your achievements.
