Have you ever experienced the inner joy of gardening? If not, it’s time for you to get those seeds handy! Anytime is a good time to start. A garden isn't just something to be admired in magazines; you can grow decorative plants to transform your backyard with some floral adornments or have your own organic fruits and vegetables growing right outside your door.

Here’s why you need to get into gardening.

You’ll burn calories

Although you probably would have never guessed it, planting a garden can be more beneficial than any weight-bearing exercise such as swimming, aerobics, and jogging. The movements you make while planting seeds and trimming leaves can offer a more consistent routine to your body than weight training. You get to watch a garden grow from scratch and burn some calories while you’re at it.

Awareness

Growing your own garden will compel you to do a lot of reading, be it step-by-step guides on how to grow plants or an explanation of what tools you’re going to need. You’re going to find yourself more environmentally aware, and you’ll learn a ton of new facts about the plants you plan to grow.

You can also protect the surrounding nature by gardening. When you grow plants without pesticides, carbon dioxide levels will be dramatically reduced in the air, thereby purifying the oxygen you’re inhaling.

Your tools will be your best friends

Do you know that feeling you get when you’re back home with shopping bags filled to the brim with goodies? You’ll feel the same way when you’re shopping for your gardening essentials.

It’s not just a pair of shears and gardening gloves that you’ll need. As you advance more, you’ll find plenty you’ll need to buy for your garden, including fertilizers, pots, and more advanced tools like heavy-duty hoes and pole saws, the latter of which will save you a ton of time and effort. Make sure you check pole saw reviews before you make any purchase. Only tools made of durable materials will come in handy.

Better Health

Gardening helps reduce the risk of many diseases, specifically strokes, which stressed individuals are prone to having. That said, spending time in outdoors will make your body convert cholesterol into vitamin D, which will strengthen your immune system and help your body absorb more calcium, keeping your teeth and bones healthy. On the other hand, consuming organic fruits and vegetables provides you with vitamins, fiber and plenty of minerals.

Also, studies have shown that growing a garden can reduce your stress levels. The activity reduces your body's level of cortisol, which is the hormone released when you are stressed. This contributes to ameliorating your health altogether.

There are many more benefits that prove that gardening is a rewarding activity. You can start with a few pots on your porch as an experiment before you start investing in a garden if you’re worried about expenses. Growing a garden enriches your body, soul, and mind. Gardening offers an accessible way of connecting with nature.
