Cleansers, toners, serums, lotions for your face, and different creams for the night, and creams for your eye areas, plus scrubs, peels and masks – no wonder figuring out how to best look after your skin can feel overwhelming. The good news is it doesn’t have to be so complicated.

If you want glowing, fresh and natural looking skin the only way to do it is to create and follow a good skincare routine. This doesn’t have to be really time consuming, and not all parts of a good skincare routine need to be done daily. The most important thing is to get into a good habit as soon as you can, and stick with it.

Remember, you don’t need to do everything every day. Here we share a good basic routine which anyone of any age can follow to get great natural and healthy looking skin, with a few tweaks which can be added if you think they are necessary. (1)

Daily skincare routine

Cleanse your face in the morning, followed by an alcohol-free toner and a light moisturizer with a high SPF for sun protection, whatever the weather is like. Or if you prefer use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15+ after the moisturiser if you prefer. [If you are older and concerned about the first signs of lines or noticeable wrinkles apply a little serum to the problem areas before moisturising. You can speeden up this process by checking out Amaira's selection of skincare products on the web.

Cleanse again in the evening, using a make-up remover product first (if relevant), then the second time with regular cleanser, tone as in the morning, and finish with a night cream – these are heavier than daytime creams. [If the area around your eyes need extra attention add an eye cream into your routine.]

There are lots of different products on the market, and some may suit your skin better than others. If you get any kind of rash, sore patches or flakiness on your skin abandon the product causing it and try another. Fragrance free lines are a good bet if you generally have reactions to perfumed products.

Weekly skincare routine

Cleansing with a liquid peel will exfoliate your skin and remove any dead cells really efficiently. These are available in pad form, or as a liquid which you massage into skin before rinsing away and cleansing as normal.

Use a face mask designed for your skin type, and make sure your skin is clean and dry before using it. Some are applied in a sheet form, others are paste like and should be applied in a thin layer then left to dry. If you buy a face mask in a tub form use a spatula to scoop out what you need to avoid contaminating the remainder. Rinse with warm water after around 15 minutes (or in line with the instructions given), and finish with some moisturizer.

Now you can see that a skincare routine leading to natural-looking skin is neither time consuming or difficult to follow all you have to do is get started!
